Hello friends and family!
We have successfully arrived in Oklahoma. Our trip was mostly uneventful; no breakdowns, anyways. We left Wednesday morning at 6:00, stopped in Sheridan, Wyoming the first night, then stayed with family in western Kansas before arriving here in Cookson, Oklahoma Friday evening. The weather was actually very nice- low 70’s for most of the trip (our AC doesn’t work, so we were thankful for the relative coolness).
This weekend, we went grocery shopping (we are cooking and eating as one big group- 22 people) and went to church. The church we went to is tiny- only 10 people, including us and the pastor. I think everyone that was there is Cherokee, and half or more of the service was in Cherokee. It was strange to not understand what they were saying. They did translate much of it into English, though
Today, we will start our study of Cherokee. We have our first session with our language helper this afternoon from about 12-2. Our helper is actually the pastor at our church
We’ll be here in Oklahoma for seven weeks. Then we will go back to Missouri too finish writing up my report on Cherokee and clean out our apartment there. During this time, we’ll try to write an update each Saturday like we did in the spring.
We are thankful…
that we made it down here without incident.
that the weather was nice on the trip.
for the chance to be with friends here.
for the chance to study Cherokee.
You can pray for us in these ways…
Our living situation is a little bit different because we are staying at a camp. It’s not bad- we’re in close proximity to the other families doing the training with us.We look forward to our time here, but we know it won’t be easy the whole time.
Studying Cherokee will be difficult. I’ve been told it’s a difficult language. I’m excited about it, but I know it will take a lot of hard work.
Balancing family time, homework and everything else.
We are a little low on money. We ‘ve seen God provide many times before and we look forward to seeing Him do it again.
Thanks! – The McIlroys
