Davis Duane McIlroy was born yesterday, May 24th. He is breathing on his own and doing pretty well for being born at only 33 weeks. We came in to the hospital on Sunday evening because Alisha had swelling and high blood pressure, symptoms of preeclampsia. Although certain meds can help keep blood pressure low, the only cure for preeclampsia is to deliver the baby.
So they started inducing Alisha yesterday afternoon. Everything was going fine, until the baby’s heart dropped for a couple minutes. It was a little scary, wondering if they were going to be able to get it back up. But they stopped the inducing meds and he stabilized. After a while, they slowly started them again and he was born around 8:30 pm.
He weighed 4 lb. 12 oz. and he looks pretty small. He can breathe on his own, which is not always the case for babies that young. He will need to stay in NICU for a while, until he can stay warm on his own, eat and gain weight. Alisha has been on magnesium for a couple days (to keep her BP down), which has made her very tired and lacking energy. They will continue to monitor her blood pressure for now, but she is doing good overall.
Thanks to everyone for all the prayers. We know a lot of people have been praying. God has answered.
