Still Worrying About Bread

April 7, 2025 by Matt and Karissa Long

Supporting Tribal Church Planting in Papua New Guinea
“You have so little faith! Why are you arguing with each other about having no bread? Don’t you understand even yet? Don’t you remember the 5,000 I fed with five loaves, and the baskets of leftovers you picked up? Or the 4,000 I fed with seven loaves, and the large baskets of leftovers you picked up?” -Matt.16:8b-10

I used to think the disciples were so ridiculous. Jesus would do one miracle, and then they would shortly after get in another situation where they would wonder how in the world Jesus would solve it. He must’ve thought, “Are you kidding me? You still are worrying about how I’m going to help you, when I just did it?”

I don’t think they are ridiculous anymore, because I see myself acting just like them. God will miraculously answer a prayer, make a way where I thought there was no way, and then I’ll immediately start worrying about the next thing. Oh Lord, please increase my faith!

When we look back on the last couple of months, we see lots of answers to prayer, but also we feel like as soon as one stressor is resolved, another one comes to take its place. Yet, deep down we know that these are just more opportunities to watch God come through for us. So, in this month’s update letter, we want to share with you some answers to prayer, and also some prayer requests we still have.

Matt’s schooling: Praise- God provided an internship for Matt this summer! He will be serving at Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge. It was difficult to find somewhere where he could be an intern only for the summer, but God provided. Prayer Request- Matt has a big exam on Thursday that he has to pass in order to get his Master’s. Pray that he will do well and pass it on the first try.

Our family’s health: Praise- Wyck’s endoscopy went well, and he wasn’t as anxious about it as he had been. Wyck’s orthodontics are going well. Ty’s allergies and asthma have not been an issue for him in the U.S. Prayer Requests- The ENT confirmed that Wyck’s vocal cords are spasming, so pray that we can continue to help him through voice exercises. Wyck needs to get more orthodontics put in on the bottom, and putting them in on the top was really rough, so pray that it goes well. Pray that Ty’s asthma and allergies continue to be okay when we return to PNG.

Finances: Praise- God abundantly provided for all of our medical expenses! He has continued to provide for our needs. Prayer Requests- We still need to raise more monthly support before we return to PNG, but with how busy Matt has been with his schooling, we have found it difficult to make time to meet with people to share about our ministry.

Thanks for praising God with us, and praying to Him for the next thing. He has multiplied loaves before, and we trust Him to do it again.

Till all know,
Matt, Karissa, Ty, and Wyck

Karissa is enjoying hanging out with her cousins

Karissa got to throw a baby shower

Wyck enjoyed the Awana Grand Prix
What are we supporting?  This month’s tribal focus:https://www.facebook.com/share/v/157xPni2BK/ Pray for the Mibu church. The Mibu church was born in 2006, and has had many trials, but the believers are standing strong. This video just shares some Mibu believers praying for their various prayer requests. Many of them are similar to ones you may have, like for the education of their children and the health of their family. Even as we have praises and prayer requests, our brothers and sisters around the world do as well. This video also just gives a good picture into daily life for people in PNG.
