Our First Semester at the MTC

January 20, 2012 by Mike and Kristi Day

Moving from NTBI in Wisconsin to the MTC in Missouri

How many people move to a new state during Christmas break? Not many, that’s why we decided to try it twice in 2 years! We moved from California to Wisconsin in December 2009, and from Wisconsin to Missouri in December 2011.

Our apartment at the MTC

While studying at NTBI the 4 of us lived in a 500sqft one-bedroom apartment. We really enjoyed it for the most part, but we were happy to move into a 4-bedroom at the MTC…even if we did have to walk to “wash-house east” for our shower and laundry needs.

Our class has about 30 students in it

We are in class about 20 hours a week. Our first semester classes at the MTC were eye-opening, practical, and challenging! A few of our favorite subjects were Worldview, Foundational Bible Teaching, and Linguistics.

Some classmates and I are on the grounds crew for work duty

The guys on campus invest 8 hours a week helping the staff maintain our huge campus. I was on grounds crew first semester. I can now add “able to start every make and model of lawn-mower and weed-wacker” on my resume!

The men also spend 8 hours a week investing in various ministries off-campus. I was involved in a Bible study for men at a homeless shelter, played drums for the worship team at church, and occasionally went with Kristi and the kids to visit the nursing home.

The women spend 4 hours a week investing in various ministries off-campus. Kristi did an amazing job volunteering at a nursing home. She did that faithfully twice a week all through the semester.

The lakeWe are blessed to have a beautiful lake right on campus! When we get a little free time, we enjoy fishing, swimming, and going out on the canoes. We are so thankful to be on this journey together as a family. We are learning so much about the Lord, ourselves, and the world. We appreciate the support, prayers, and encouragement you send our way!
