So, we’ve already hit the half-way mark in our summer, which is truly hard to believe! We spent the last few weeks preparing for our church youth group’s summer missions trip to Paonia, Colorado. We spent last week on the actual trip. I was granted the responsibility of cooking for the group, which was a blast! I’d never cooked for 23 people at once, but I learned so much from it and had plenty of helpers to make things happen. But cooking was only a small part of it, I got to see the Lord work in so many ways. Our students worked incredibly hard on running the VBS program at the church in the morning, and in the evening they had activities in the park to reach out to the teens in the area. The unity and the kindness that I saw on the team blew me out of the water! To see God’s Spirit working in young people was a breath of fresh air. They shared the gospel openly and clearly with the little ones in the morning, telling them of God who created them in his image, and in the evening they shared their stories with local teens of how God had changed their lives. It was spectacular to be a part of it. The whole point of the trip was for them to see that what they did in Paonia was transferrable to Colorado Springs when they got home from the trip. I was impacted by the student’s desires to worship, not only through songs, but in service and prayer. The Lord humbled me and reminded me that He is worthy of worship no matter what we feel like.
