Our break is only a few days away from being over. The first two weeks we spent in California with Payton’s family and friends. I can truly say that time spent with family was lovely, and at the same time, it was quite a rough trip. A childhood friend of Payton’s brother died unexpectedly, 6 out of 9 of us got a virus, there were colds and coughs to go around, and we had to play games with luggage claim in San Francisco to get our bags after some missed flights. I learned so much on this trip–let’s see what happens to Grace when she’s stretched to her limits (I especially hate being sick and groggy around people)…God had quite a few lessons in store for both Payton and I. But, visiting family was totally worth it–and I did enjoy San Francisco!
The past two weeks of our break have been spent settling back in to our apartment, visiting my side of the family, catching up on necessary tasks, and making an overnight trip to Indiana with friends. I am 100% ready to start school. I’m practically itching to get back into the groove of school. We’ve packed on the pounds this semester, taking all of the electives that we will need to graduate, in hopes that we’ll have our junior and senior semesters available to work. The sophomore semester is supposed to be the easiest–we’ll see.
As for lessons in my life, I’m still working on being less of a “Martha” and choosing the needful things in life over the distractions and worries, which still hits me in the face quite often. Seeing as how I love lists, efficiency, productivity and things of the like, flexibility is not one of my strong points. I’m convinced that God has me on an intense stretching regimen. Even though I’d rather not endure the pain at times, I cannot dismiss the fact that I’m grateful. I would rather become limber now than while in the remote jungles of some third world country. I’m positive that the stretching will continue even in the jungle, but it’s good to know I’m being worked on now, before you toss culture shock, language acquisition, and strange food into the mix. If you’re praying that God will stretch me, don’t forget to pray for Payton! He gets to enjoy being my other half while I’m learning to touch my toes!

Good point. I'll have to remember that in the future. 2 cents accepted!

While it's great to grow in new areas, don't be too quick to forget honing your strengths as well. God made you like he did for a reason, and I'm betting lists, efficiency and productivity will be great assets in school and in the field. If you have a strong arm don't be ashamed to go for the 40 yard passes instead of feeling bad because you're not a better scrambler. Just my 2 cents.
