A few summer things

July 21, 2010 by Payton and Grace Downing

(Please don’t be offended by the picture before you read the post!)
So, studying Hebrew has it’s benefits besides just the beauty of the language itself and the deeper understanding of the Jewish culture. People are always coming up to me and wondering what I’m studying–it probably looks like I’m making up my own alien language, complete with doodads and squiggles (cursive form of Hebrew is pretty silly). Yesterday’s was my favorite.

Random guy: What are you studying?
Me: Hebrew.
Random guy: For school…or…is it a part of your heritage?
Me: Mostly for spiritual purposes–I read my Bible every day and hope to understand it better…
Random guy: Did you know I’m reading a book about Jesus?! It’s called “The Yoga of Jesus”!
Me: Huh?
Random guy: Yeah, you know that Jesus disappeared from age 18-30. Do you know what he was doing?! He was in the far east studying yoga and energy!
Me: Well, I don’t know about that–
Random guy:–oh, he was! He was one really centered guy!
And then he left.
Now, I’ve had some amazing opportunities to share the gospel with people and such, but that was just strange.
Payton and I had the opportunity to hand out tracts with friends from church right before a parade. That was an exciting opportunity to just proclaim truth. Praise God for that!
We also “pre-packed” the car to see if our possessions would fit…it’s Payton’s desire to be “mobile”. So, with the exception of our books, we had to fit everything in the car. I was quite worried about this. But, after stacking the 8 attached lid containers on top of the car along with two fold up bucket chairs and a cargo bag, and putting everything else in car, I realized that it fit!!! And with room to spare! We might even be able to take a cooler and not put it in my lap!
Pray for us as we finish up before we leave in August. So much to do!

So glad that you guys were able to fit all of your stuff into your car; I know what an undertaking that can be even for just one person! Safe travels!
