In May of 2010 a team came to run an eye clinic for the community. They brought donated glasses and matched up each person with the glasses they needed. They were able to see nearly 500 people in 5 working days and donated about 375 pairs of glasses. Many people were praying at the time that we would get permission from the government to run the clinic. Praise the Lord the permission was recieved at the exact moment that the team’s plane arrived in our area.
The purpose of the eye glass clinic was to help people be able to read. We have been telling the Mwinika people that we want them to have access to God’s Word. We know, however, that just translating God’s Word is not the answer. They have to know how to read their own language before it will be a help to them to have God’s Word. We explained that this is the reason we are teaching literacy classes. However, in order to be able to read they need to be able to see. That is where the eye glass clinic came in. The team was able to supply hundreds of people with reading glasses to help them be able to read God’s Word. Pray that the Mwinika people will learn about God through being able to see and read His Word.
