WELL STILL NOT FIXED

January 22, 2011 by Phil and Elin Henderson

Two steps forward. Three steps back. Sometimes that is how it feels when dealing with our well. A crew finally showed up to work on the well after 2 months of waiting. They spent Thursday trying to fix it but ended up only making things worse. We hired the crew to build up the walls of the well with cement blocks to keep the dirt on the sides of the well from caving in. After they were done I realized the crew had been taking the bricks from the wrong pile. I had a pile of sun-dried mud bricks in the corner of the yard that they had used instead of the cement bricks that I had told them to use. Apparently they were closer to the worksite than the cement ones I had indicated as the pile to use. Needless to say, sun-dried mud bricks don’t work very well submerged in water. They return to being mud! So now I have to send another crew down, clean out the remainder of the mud bricks, and do it all over again with cement bricks. Ahhhh!

In the meantime we have to continue paying ladies from the village to bring us water each day. [Here is a picture of two of them.] They don’t seem to be disappointed with our setback. 🙂 Please pray that we will be able to get the well fixed soon.
