Illustrations help us explain a lot of spiritual principles. Just like the Lord used parables in His teaching we try to use a lot of illustrations and proverbs to get our points across. Today we used an illustration of a goat kid to show our identification with Adam’s sin.
If a man buys a male goat and female goat at the market and takes them home whose goats will they be? They will be his goats. He might even get a receipt for the two goats to show that they are his. What happens if, after a while, the two goats have a baby goat. What will happen if a neighbor comes by and takes the baby goat? Will the owner of the adult goats get upset? For sure. He will take the neighbor to court. What if, at the court case, the neighbor who took the baby goat acknowledges that the other man owns the father and mother goat? What if he even admits to having seen the receipt for the father and mother goat? His point is that he didn’t take the mother goat or the father goat. He knows they have an owner. He took the baby goat. He says the baby goat doesn’t have an owner. He wants to know if the owner of the adult goats has a receipt for the baby goat? No. He only has receipts for the parents. Well then, he argues, the baby goat is therefore ownerless and free game to anyone who wants to take it home. Now what do you think? Who will the judges favor? Who does the baby goat belong to? We all know that the baby goat belongs to man who owns the mother and father goat. He bought them and he owns any baby goats that they produce. It is the same with chickens and cows and ducks.
It is also the same for humans. When the father and mother (Adam and Eve) belong on Satan’s side, all their children belong on that side too, and all their children, etc. etc.. All of us who are alive today are the children of Adam and Eve. As Cain and Abel were born outside of the Garden of Eden separated from the God who is Life, so we too are born outside of the Garden of Eden and separated from the God who is Life.
