As we taught the lesson regarding Babel and dispersion of the various people groups we spent some time tying that in to some of the ways Satan operates. We taught that Satan and his evil spirits had a goal of keep all of the various groups from trusting God. They developed various strategies for different groups. What keeps one people group in bondage doesn’t necessarily work for other groups.
One of the main strategies is to pose as helpful spirits when in reality they are only seeking to destroy and devour. We used the illustration of a blind man being beating with a stick by another man. The man first beats the blind man and then rushes over to the blind man’s side and pretends to help him. He tells the blind man: “My name is A and I want to help you, but B over there is trying to hit you. I will go and try to make him stop.” He steps away and picks up the stick and hits the blind man a few more times. All the while he is saying “Hey B, stop that. That is not nice. This man is my friend, don’t hit him, stop that!” After that goes on for a while, if you were to ask the blind man who is his friend and who is his enemy he would say that A is his friend and B is his enemy. Then we asked the crowd: “Is A really his friend?” They clearly saw that A is just pretending to be his friend but really he wants to hurt the blind man. We then shared that this is how Satan and his evil spirits deceive us. They offer us help but all the while they are really out to hurt us. They hate us and want what is worst for us but they pretend to be helping us.
