THE OWNER OF THE WORD

January 5, 2012 by Phil and Elin Henderson

As a recent believer’s meeting was getting underway, one of the believers said something to those assembled, it was something that I thought I would pass on.

“We are getting ready to read a chapter from God’s word in our own language and then one of us will explain what was read. Everyone here will be able to hear the word since it is written in our own language. No one will wonder what is being said. While this is true it is also true that the person who explains the passage will be unable to explain the word on his own without help from God. It is important for us to understand that the owner of the Word is God. It is the Holy Spirit’s job to explain the Word of God to us. He is the one who helps us understand. A person in his own strength will not be able to grasp the whole significance. We ask God to help the one who will be explaining God’s word to be clear and accurate in his explanation and that we will be helped to understand clearly.”
