DAY 5 – THE STORM HAS A NAME

January 24, 2012 by Phil and Elin Henderson

Apparently our tropical storm has a name… Cyclone Funso. We expected that the storm would die down today but for the fifth straight day it has been raining and windy. For most of the day the wind was about the same but the rain was a lot heavier. As evening arrives even the wind seems to be stronger.

In the community many more houses have fallen or are at risk. This morning I was able to go around and visit some of the folks. This afternoon several more reports of fallen houses came in. Everyone is scrambling to reinforce their walls and protect them from the wind and rain, including ourselves. It looks like it will be another long night.

I even cancelled school and declared it a “cyclone day”. The kids were thrilled!
