When you live in a rural community everyone knows everyone. And, everyone knows everyone’s business. We have learned that there is NOTHING sacred or private in our lives. Our neighbors see when we go to the bathroom in the outhouse. Even at night, they can tell by the flashlight making it’s way to the facilities. They know who visits the house, how long they stay. They can tell us our daily routine, who wakes up when and when we go to bed.
They have laughed in delight as they watched us chase my co-workers’ dog in our pajamas trying to get it to let go of the baby pig it had in its jaws.
When there is no television and one is bored, you watch what the neighbors are doing. Well, I think we’re fitting in…
One of our neighbors’ kids built their own house close to us. When they got it liveable, they moved in their few belongings. We watched as the mom, sisters, and the young couple “moved” in to their new house.
