How do you translate, starting a new life? Recently while reading a report from one of the many ministries in the Philippines, I came across the following statement; “Parang panibagong buhay kami” (Seems we’re starting a new life).” That’s what it feels like for us as we prepare to head back to the Philippines in June.
I know, many of you are thinking, “Haven’t they done this before?” Yes, it’s true this is not our first time heading to the Philippines. In fact, when we head back in June, this will be our third time returning after our service began in 2002. And yet, every time we head back, it seems like we are starting over again.
Pray for Our Transition:
Having left our home in the Philippines just over 12 months ago now, we gave up our apartment (which we absolutely loved), sold our car (which we appreciated but loved not so much), sold a few items, stored a few items, and loaned a few items. What does all of that mean for our return?
- We’ll need to find a new home (3X first month rent for deposit, location still to be determined as we are debating a move closer to our daughters’ school)
- We’ll need to purchase a new vehicle (or gently used – hoping to find something reliable that will last us at least four years)
- We’ll need to arrange transportation to relocate our household goods from storage and from those we’ve loaned items to (cost depends on current rates)
- We’ll need to purchase a few new household items (for sure Sheila needs a new bed but I’m guessing we’ll need other items also)
With this transition in mind and the cost of moving yet again, please keep us in prayer as we trust the Lord for his provisions and for a steadfast focus on Him in the process. Yes, we are looking forward to our return to the Philippines and to reconnecting with friends and other family members we haven’t seen in a while, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy saying good-bye once again to friends and family in this part of the world. As the saying goes, it never gets any easier.
Praise Regarding Support:
When we came home last year we had just 43% of our recommended amount. I’m excited to report however that current giving has on track to reach 74%. That’s a huge blessing and encouragement for us. Our goal is still to reach 100% and so should anyone like to partner with us on a regular basis or with a special offering to help with these transition expenses, please proceed to our GIVE page to learn how. If you have questions or comments, please send us a message via our CONTACT page.
While starting a new life is sometimes challenging (no matter how many times you’ve done it), our part in helping others start a new life in Christ makes it all worth it. That translates into inexplicable joy. So whether your partnership is in prayer, giving, or words of encouragement, we are blessed. Thanks for standing with us.
