Friends from the Faroe Islands

September 1, 2004 by

Going down town on the bus.

We have been so blessed these past 3 weeks spending time with our Faroese friends, Joannis and Jona Skorheim.  Introducing them to Filipino life was great – showing them the church where we worship in Manila, the market where we buy our meat, fruits and veggies; acquainting them with our friends, tasting lots of new foods and trying various modes of transportation like jeepneys and tricycles.

We also had a few fun day trips, one of them being to Tagaytay where a small boat took us across Lake Taal where we rode horses up the hill to see the active volcano.  That being followed by a lovely dinner in a garden made it a memorable day.  Other days we spent in Baguio, Banaue and Corrigidor Island where Douglas MacArthur spoke his famous words, "I Shall Return."  Another special event was attending a Sunday morning service in the Kalanguya tribe.  Seeing the believers leading the service and teaching the Word is the bottom line of why we are here, so that is always a huge encouragement.

They also were able to spend time with the other two Faroese couples here – Olavur & Asa Jokladal who work at Faith Academy, and JJ & Cathy Rasmussen doing translation work on Palawan.  Not only was it a fun and refreshing time for us to have our friends here, we are also thankful they can take a report back to our home church in the Faroes and share with the believers there what God is doing here in the Philippines.
