Week-end with Kankanaey friends

September 1, 2005 by

Catching up with friends

The sun rose slowly over the mountains in the east, spilling its rays upon the beautiful rice fields.  Rocky’s eyes were taking in the familiar details, the trails that lead to our friend’s homes, the Igorot language rolling off tongues, the smell of mountain rice cooking and home grown coffee brewing.

The believers in the village where we had lived for many years, were hosting a mini conference this past week-end and asked Rocky to come in and share from the Word.  He was accompanied by our former coworker the last 9 hours on the bus ride into the village.  It gave them lots of time to reminisce over the past and talk about the future of the work among the Kankanaey.

For Rocky, the week-end was filled with mixed emotions.   On the one hand, it was exciting to spend the week-end with the believers there, seeing their continued growth and meeting a few new believers.  On the other hand, there was his awareness of the need to continue to spread out as there are still many thousand Kankanaey who have not yet heard God’s wonderful news.
