New Home

6 September 11 by Roland and Jinni Shafer Jr.

Front Right of Our New HomeWell, we are slowly getting situated, enough to have people over for a meal.  Thankfully I am not one who cares if everything is perfect and in it’s place.  Go to our photos page and see all the pictures of our wonderful new farm home.  The family we are renting from are already becoming good friends and we are so grateful they are sharing their farm with us.  We got a tractor tour of the property the other day, but I think the tractor may have bit the dust! 🙁  Pray it can be revived! There is a German Shepherd we love already named Nino.  He fetches rocks.  They also have 2 horses and a donkey named Billy, who loves to get his ears scratched.  Contrary to horses, when his ears are back, it’s a good thing.  We lit a fire for the first time in the wood stove, as the temp went down to 9!  OK…remember it’s Celsius up here! (and everywhere else for that matter)

Elijah starts school tomorrow and everyone is jealous, but tables will turn in June when he is still going and we are all out!  He is excited about the choices for classes and electives, and football tryouts will be coming up soon!

My classroom is large and wonderful, and I start Drama today.  Last week we held a garage sale for the Academy, so afternoon classes were suspended.  Here is my classroom and pictures of the garage sale and “stuff” the Lord provided in our van:

I am feeling very spoiled and well taken care of, as I have the largest classroom.  I monitor 2 videos classes in the morning: Biology with grades 9 & 10, and World History and Cultures with my one 11th grader.  We pause the video and discuss things.  I check homework and give quizzes & tests and run labs.  It’s a fun and not so heavy way to start back to teaching.

When we left Canada in 2007, we got rid of most of our belongings, thinking we were headed to Indonesia. We are so thankful for the many things that have been provided for us: hutch, couches, beds, dressers, microwave, toaster oven, bread machine and more.  Most of our set-up costs have been spent on gas, U-haul, some furniture and electronics (internet, phone, tv)

Conveniently, there was a garage sale held by the Academy this weekend.  The teachers took turns manning it and we scored some many needed items like: pepper grinder, 4 more chairs for our dining room table, silverware, quilt, boots, pots & pans.

My “funnest” story, (yes that is a word now according to Webster’s) is this:  When the girls and I were up looking for houses to buy or rent, we stopped in on our old apartment.  The door was wide open and a single girl was cleaning.  I had left our dining room table, 4 chairs and 6 bookshelves for others to use, and just wanted to check if they were still in the apartment.  They were!  all but 3 bookshelves.  Then, “it just so happened”, the man I needed to talk to about furniture, walked in.  I explained how I had left the furniture believing we were headed to Indonesia (he spent many years in a tribe in Indonesia), and could I get it back?  He gladly agreed and now we have our dining room furniture and 3 bookshelves.  The family that was slated to be in our apartment, is not able to come, so it did not inconvenience anyone either.

God is Good!  Thank you for following, praying and giving!  We are a team and we couldn’t impact the world, reaching all tribes without you!  May we all be used by Him, in His strength, for His Glory!       ~Jinni for the family   PS…we are getting close to reaching 70% of the 100% support we are trusting God for!

Enjoy your new home, guys! This is so nice and roomy… I know you will find it hard to keep it all warm in the winter, but at least now, it is fun to have SPACE!
Praise God for your hospitality… I know folks love to visit you just as we did.
We are doing fine on this end, just had 120 visitors from Sao Paulo today… but we had only a few of them up here on the hill… most of them were staying with the students and staff, fixing a cook-out and finding the nice warm air and sunshine a pleasure.
It is great to see Mama interacting with all those who come to visit her and pray with her.
    Love you,
Carleen and Ken and Grandma Cora, of course.

our Source of confidence – 2 Corinthians 3;4-6

(4)  We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ.

(5)  It is not that we think we can do anything of lasting value by ourselves. Our only power and success come from God.

(6)  He is the one who has enabled us to represent His new covenant. This is a covenant, not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old way ends in death; in the new way, the Holy Spirit gives life.

2 Corinthians 3:4-6
