Merry Christmas? I can’t hear you! Good News?!

20 December 12 by Roland and Jinni Shafer Jr.

Romans 10:14-15 “But how are people to call upon Him Whom they have not believed [in Whom they have no faith, on Whom they have no reliance]? And how are they to believe in Him [adhere to, trust in, and rely upon Him] of Whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? And how can men [be expected to] preach unless they are sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who bring glad tidings! [How welcome is the coming of those who preach the good news of His good things!]”

When my cell phone and I get into a place where the reception is bad, usually I end up saying “I can’t hear you” – at least once. It is usually pretty easy to move a little one direction or the other and restore the signal quality enough to resume or maintain the conversation. Technology being what it is capable of today, there are fewer and fewer places where reception is unavailable. Most of the time anyone can make and receive a telephone call.

As we serve here at the Missionary Training Centre, our candidates are prepared to enter parts of the world where cellphones work!, but the Good News of SALVATION IN JESUS CHRIST ALONE, the gospel, has not made it there!!! Some tribal people have cell phones, some have solar panels with a light bulb provided for them by some official branch of their country. Most often, however, there is not a word of Scripture available in this remote tribal language.

We have had the privilege to work with 14 graduating students over the past 18 months. They are heading out to where the hearts are ripe for receiving what is rarely coming in over the air waves. Even with the missionary up close, the message of salvation in Jesus Christ alone remains a poorly received “transmission” for quite some time. These candidates have taken time to prepare their hearts, minds and bodies, to stay the course and make sure there is “clear reception“ of this AMAZING, GOOD NEWS! What a joy to have a team of partners allowing us to help equip these laborers for the long-term task of making the Word of God clear in these unreached tribal languages.

God is using you, in this way. Isn’t it exciting?! Although you are not holding their hands when times are tough, praying with them to remain focused on the Lord or encouraging them as they grow spiritually and personally, God is allowing you to do that through us. We are thrilled to be your ‘reps’ in their lives. They know you have sent us and are very grateful.

As you have time over this coming holiday season, maybe you will remember that someone made the message something you could hear clearly. God used people around you to show you He cared for you. He cared enough to keep them available to make sure you understood this precious SALVATION message you celebrate during Christmas. Perhaps you may be the message bringer to someone this year! Keep praying!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from our home to yours…

our Source of confidence – 2 Corinthians 3;4-6

(4)  We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ.

(5)  It is not that we think we can do anything of lasting value by ourselves. Our only power and success come from God.

(6)  He is the one who has enabled us to represent His new covenant. This is a covenant, not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old way ends in death; in the new way, the Holy Spirit gives life.

2 Corinthians 3:4-6
