When the Well Runs Dry…

December 20, 2016 by Rosie Cochran

The things we take for granted.

The baking was done, the kitchen cleaned, and my siblings would be joining me in an hour or so for a Thanksgiving dinner together. Relaxed, I sat sipping on coffee and flipping through the Black Friday flyers. That’s when I noticed the water pump was running continuously. And it shouldn’t have been.

A quick run through the house confirmed that there wasn’t a faucet left on, and that the pump really should not be running. Not a good sign. Checking a few faucets showed low water pressure that soon petered out to a drizzle and then to nothing. Definitely not a good sign.

It was Thanksgiving.

And I was without water.

And it would soon become apparent that a new water system was the best course of action.

From my back door to my sister’s.

There was still much for which to be thankful.

I was thankful that my sister was more than willing to move the Thanksgiving meal to her house.

I was thankful that it was only a hop, skip and a jump across the backyard to my sister’s place to fill water buckets! Though, admittedly, more water made it to the house when I refrained from hopping, skipping and jumping! Plus, she has a very nice extra shower.

I was more than thankful when, just shy of two weeks later, I had a new well, pump and pressure tank. Once again there is water properly functioning in the house!

And right now? I’m thankful that all this happened before my parents showed up for Christmas!

But there’s another thing I’m thankful. That’s for friends like you! Thank you for your friendship. Thank you for praying!

And now, the well is … well!
