A highlight of my summer trip was having the opportunity to share of yet another people group reached with the gospel message. What a privilege!
For years, the Iski people of Papua New Guinea blended animistic beliefs with misunderstood Western religions, trying to do the right things to pay for their sins and save themselves.
But it hadn’t worked.
“We are unchanged,” they said. “We fight and quarrel just as much as we did before. We steal, we cheat, we sleep around, we beat our wives and children; we have done everything we were told to do, but we are still controlled by our desire to do bad things.”
After hearing of a neighboring tribe being dramatically changed after missionaries shared God’s talk with them, a group of 300 Iskis made an unprecedented, countercultural decision. They relocated to a tiny village in a swampy valley near their neighbors and petitioned missionaries to come teach them.
And the missionaries came!
As the missionaries taught chronological and foundational Bible lessons, the truths from God’s Word penetrated the Iskis’ darkness and gave them new testimonies. Let me share just a few with you.
“It is true for me, the Savior came, and the Lamb without spot died for me.” — Bnaga
“God suffered and carried my pain. Before, we heard the story of Jesus healing the blind man, but yesterday my eyes were opened.” — Rudolph
“It’s big. I am not going to do any work to save myself. I will hide under the blood of the Savior.” —Alvis
And I love this one!
“I’m so thankful to your families, to your parents, who sent you with your children, with their grandkids. If they had not helped you and sent you, we would not have heard this talk, but they did. Now we are all one clan: God’s clan. We are all brothers and sisters, and we will see your family in heaven.” — Cecelia
Thank you for partnering with me to see unreached people groups around the world reached with the gospel.
