Here at NTM, as we celebrate 75 years since the mission was founded, we’re reflecting on what God has accomplished in missions down through the years — and we’re even getting a bit nostalgic about our heritage.
As I’ve read back over our history, NTM’s founders’ vision continues to challenge me:
“By unflinching determination we hazard our lives and gamble all for Christ until we have reached the last tribe regardless of where that tribe might be.” (Brown Gold magazine, Issue 1, May 1943)
Do you hear the commitment behind those words? And the vision? What a far-reaching vision that represents God’s heart for the world and a vision that’s worth getting passionate about. And that is still our vision today!
A new name…
As we look to the next 75 years, we move forward with that same vision — but with a new name. Yes, we have a new name! We are now Ethnos360 — and we’re excited about it. Our leadership explains it well:
Ethnos360 is the name that anchors us to our foundations and points us to our vision.
Ethnos is the “nations” that Christ referred to when He commanded His followers to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19) and “…that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all the nations…” (Luke 24:47).
And 360 represents the entirety of the globe — all 360 degrees. Our goal is to go wherever in the world is necessary to see a thriving church for every people, not only to focus on one particular type of people group.
…that speaks to who we are.
I’m not one that likes change for change’s sake, but I like our new name. It really does anchor us to our foundations and point to our vision. And it speaks to who we are. (And our new coffee mugs are really cool!)
Speaking of change, if you’ve not already heard, our home office moved back in February. Not far. Only about 10 blocks. But this is another change I’m loving. We have more room, fewer people crammed into small spaces, and it is so much quieter.
I’m looking forward to sitting at my new desk writing and editing for many years to come! Thanks for partnering with me so that I can do just that.
