The skills and training we have learned are vital to our future ministry. For April specifically, she has been given the enormous task of being the one responsible in our future tribal team to break down the tribal language, analyze it’s grammatical structures, and reduce the words they say into written form.
This, by far, is no easy task. To finalize all the training she has received we have been asked for six weeks to go to live among the Cherokee people in Talehqua, Oklahoma to do a test run with an actual native language. The task will be to meet daily with a Cherokee culture and language helper to elicit words & texts. Then, from the data gathered, to do a language write-up attempting to ultimately break down the language, & give it an alphabet. When all said and done this will probably be about 80 pages of text.
While this may seem boring and unexciting on the surface, it is this work that will enable us to translate God’s word into a tribal language on the mission field so that one day very soon an unreached people group will be able to read God’s words in their own language. Now that is cool stuff!
Be in prayer for us as we prepare to leave for Oklahoma in less than 2 weeks. For specific prayer requests on this click on this link. www.ntm.org/ryan-beck/pray.php
