Six weeks and counting!

November 4, 2006 by

Oklahoma City, OK

I once had someone tell me that they could not do what we are doing because they had not been given the spiritual gifting that we had.  Translated this meant, "All the things that are hard about being missionaries aren’t really an issue for you because you have the spiritual gifts that enable you to handle them."  Let me be real with you.  We miss our families and home like crazy.  6 weeks and counting is what we have left before we get to be home.  Today, this feels like an eternity.

As I sit here in a hotel room in Oklahoma City the Lord is bringing to mind a truth from his word.  Isaiah 40:31 "Those who trust in the LORD will find new strength, they will soar high on wings like eagles.  They will run and not grow weary.  They will walk and not faint."  So many times I start to think to myself, "if only I try hard to have strength then the Lord will honor that."  But this truth says nothing about putting on strength.  It says only to trust in the Lord and He will renew your strength.  Thank the Lord that His strength is made perfect in us through our dependence on Him.  The spiritual gift we have been given is the greatest gift of all.  The Holy Spirit is that gift, and He is faithful to strengthen us, especially when we feel week.
