Remember the ole varsity football jackets. I don’t know if kids where them anymore
but as a kid I just remember those jackets being a statement. First and foremost it stated that you were part of a team. There was an underlying statement though, and that was “I am cool”. If you were wearing the varsity jacket you were cool. I mostly know this because of pop culture. I was a varsity mommas boy and probably had a hand me down jacket (AKA I was homeschooled).
If I could, I would buy every one of our supporters a Varsity football jacket that said “Expanding the reach” or “Tribe or Die” on the back! You know, something cool! Because it is cool! It’s the coolest not cool thing out there. So if you are into liking what’s cool before it’s cool, then join our team!
Seriously though, there is a team aspect to what Cathren and I are doing that cannot be emphasized enough. I wish there was a way to make our supporters feel like we are all on the field, all sweating, all hearing the roar of the crowd and all in the huddle discussing the next big play for the goal. Each person is important. Each person is vital.
What i don’t want to do is write a ton of paragraphs to explain what kind of things are preventing us all (christians) from feeling like or being like a team. Thats not what I want to do. All I want to do is say “Yes, we are a team! Lets work together to expand the reach of the gospel”.
I also thought it would be cool to make collector cards for my team. Like a baseball card. It would have a picture of you doing what you do to expand the reach of the gospel. A sweet action shot of you praying for the souls of the lost, or a snap shot of you at work using the skill He’s given you to be a light in the workplace and bring in the wages. Maybe a shot of you with the family explaining practical Biblical truths that are relevant to the daily things your kids face. Think about it. what position do you play on the team. what do you do to ensure the furtherance of the gospel.
We already have such an amazing team! If you saw the cards that would be made for our team and the replay highlights you would totally want to be on the team. When I think about these people and what they have done, it brings tears to my eyes. Truly God is awesome and everything is cool when your part of a team.
Oh and one last thing. if you have ever thought about or prayed about being a part of the team. PLEASE let us know. The countdown has started for our departure to Dakar Senegal!
