Anton, exercising his gift from God.

August 5, 2012 by Simon and Annika Flanagan

We have another story that shows Gods grace and work amongst the Mengen people.

You have heard Antons name before, He is a constant presence in Lourens’s office and mine also. He helps us check that our lessons are communicating well, and apart from that just sits and listens to Gods word. Anton is really understanding the truths of Gods word and it shows as the Spirit is at work in his life.

Just recently Apite the wife of one of our trainee teachers cut her hand badly and couldn’t get to the garden and look after her 4 children well. Brus has lots of responsibilities just now as a trainee teacher; he teaches on Fridays and helps me in my office etc. Anton decided to help them; he didn’t ask any of us missionaries or any older believers about how he would help. He got a big bag and went around believers houses asking for donations of sweet potato and tapioca root! He was able to take a big bag of food to Apite and Brus to help them out as they are having a difficult time just now. I asked him why he did this and he said we are the family of God and need to help each other now; and he thinks God has given him the present of helping people. Many of the older believers are talking about what he has done and were taken aback, as this is not typical behavior in our village or even amongst the body as a whole. Anton said he doesn’t want paid back for the food and that it is just part of us being a family.

This has been a great encouragement to us as a team. It’s great to see God at work in these simple ways and see truth taking feet. We praise God for Anton and for the present God has given him!

Let’s all find ways to exercise the gifts God has given us; I am sure we will encourage others just like Anton.

Thanks for your prayers and support that are changing lives forever.
