Philip, my dad and I have been having a Bible study every Sunday morning, and we’re going through the book of Romans. I just can across an interesting passage.
Paul is talking about how God has mercy on whomever He wants, and he Hardens those he wants to harden. Then Paul asks the question that he’s sure many of his readers will be asking: Then how can sin be anyone’s fault? I mean, who can go against God’s will? And I love the reply:
But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to Him who formed it, “why have you made me like this?”
-Romans 9:20
Seriously… who are we to question God’s goodness? I can understand a non-believer asking that question, just trying to fathom who God is before giving Him his life, but what about believers? Dare we accuse God of not being fair or just? I don’t know how predestination works, or whether God predestines people to hell. I do know that we’re all sinners, though, and God is fully within His rights to judge us whenever and however He pleases.
Moral of the story: We deserve death, but by God’s grace, he saved us… chose us to live in eternity with Him. Pray that we never take that for granted.
