Problem:
The only “chairs” we have for our computer are actually stools, because the table it sits on is too tall for regular chairs. This was cause for back and butt pains for anyone seated at the computer for any length of time.
Solution:
Philip and Jamie gave us stool-chair things (cushioned stools with seat-backs). This would provide the best of both worlds: Tall enough for the computer table, and cushioned, back-supporting comfort. Hooray!
Problem:
The chair-stools are too tall, and will not work at all.
Solution:
Cut down the legs to make them the right height.
Problem:
The chairs are made of metal.
Solution:
Bust out the Saws-all we got as a wedding gift!
Problem:
With no shop vice (or a shop to go with it), I ended up on my knees in the laundry room with one end of the leg (which was detachable) stuck between two plastic bins, and Rachel pointlessly holding the other end. Needless to say, it did not work out.
Solution:
I also own a hack-saw (which would have been nice to remember before the whole saws-all idea).
After a few more problem-solution cycles, I ended up with four nearly identical stool legs. Now to see if they’re “close enough.” I got all the legs screwed on and set the chair up. Not a single wobble! the chair was solid as a rock!. Now all I had to do was scoot it over to its spot by the computer and… oh, ok, now it wobbles! Apparently we don’t have the worlds most level floor (who refinished this thing anyways?). Well, all it took was a quarter-turn clockwise and the wobble disappeared! So now after only about 30 minutes, I am sitting in my new comfy computer chair, all thanks to Philip and Jamie, my trusty hack saw, and Ben Grooters for giving it to me (The best bridal shower gift I have ever, or will ever have the privilege to receive).
Jamie says
Glad it all worked out in the end! Only now you can’t make the monster “birthday boy” chair anymore… 🙁
