I just want to write this quick note to let you all know about the fire that hit way too close to home.
For those who don’t know, our city (Colorado Springs) was recently on fire. The Waldo Canyon Fire started around noon on Saturday, June 23rd. On the following Tuesday, aided by high winds, the fire jumped a primary and secondary containment line to enter the mountain shadows neighborhood where it quickly consumed 346 homes and the iconic Flying W Ranch. Firefighters worked tirelessly to protect what homes they could, and saved many. About 30,000 people were evacuated from their homes in Colorado Springs and other cities surrounding the fire, and a few of our friends were displaced from their homes during that time.
These pictures show the fire on Tuesday night during its invasion of the mountain shadows neighborhood. The pictures were taken about a mile from the place we’re living for the summer.
We are now on day 12 of the fire and authorities say it is 90% contained! Our neighborhood was never threatened, nor was it even placed on pre-evacuation notice. We are extremely grateful for all the firefighters and other resources that came from all over the country to protect us from what could have destroyed much of Colorado Springs.
Thanks to everyone who prayed for us and for the residents of Mountain Shadows. God’s hand was here and only 2 people lost their lives as of yet in this fire, which has been named the most destructive in state history.
