For those of you who don’t know, our summer has been spent living in the basement at my (Stephen’s) parents’ house. While this was a good situation for us, and we weren’t dying to put any distance between us and our free babysitters, it was time for us to move on. The Lord has provided a place fairly nearby with a back yard, three bedrooms, and enough space to get everything out of storage.
Thank you to everyone who was praying that we’d find a place! We’re super thankful for our new (rental) house, and anyone in Colorado Springs who wants to come see it is welcome.
The house is in a little cul-de-sac, and has a tiny little triangle of grass that they call a “front yard.” However, our back yard is more than adequate. We have a large culvert behind the back fence with an elevation drop (you might call it a waterfall if you weren’t trying to be too accurate), which is fun to watch when it rains. There’s also a nice walking trail nearby, and we feel pretty close to some pretty cool stuff (Target, groceries, a McDonald’s playplace, some awesome friends…). I’m pretty excited about the 2-car garage to be able to work in, and have room for all the stuff a man needs a garage for (you know… man stuff).
A friend pointed out to us that this is the first time we’ve had a house to ourselves since we’ve been married! We’ve lived in a house attached to a salon (“shhh, the light is on”), rented a house with another couple (“we’ll take the upstairs”), lived in three different apartments throughout our training for New Tribes, and lived in my parents’ basement. We’re really stoked to have our own place, and are enjoying it thoroughly.
While this move is a blessing, it’s also been quite a time-sucker getting everything moved in and set up. The last few times we’ve moved it’s been for school, and we’ve been able to arrive 1 or 2 weeks before school started in order to have time to settle in. This time, though, we’ve had no real break from our normal schedule to get everything moved in, and we’d appreciate your prayers for time and energy to get and feel settled.
