It was a great trip! The Foundational Bible Teaching Workshop (FBTW) was an excellent equipping event, focused on helping cross-cultural church planters communicate the truth of God’s Word more effectively to tribal people.
Just a couple of notes to color in the picture…
- Despite a 4-hour layover in Atlanta (during which I got to visit with my sister and her husband), Delta was unable to get my checked bag onto the plane which took me to São Paolo. To their credit, the Brazilian airline that flew me on to Asunción gave me some cash to buy a change of socks and underwear, a fresh shirt and a toothbrush. The suitcase caught up with me 2 days later.
- I really enjoyed catching up with, and even sharing a room with some old friends, and meeting new colleagues from different countries and ministry locations.
- The meetings on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the first week were a seminar to prepare those who served as presenters in the actual workshop. The main training event went from Monday thru Thursday of the second week. I interpreted for 5 or 6 sessions each day both weeks.
- On Friday night, a few of us attended the presentation of the Aché New Testament in a local church. It was a joy to see the Paraguayan translator, the Aché co-translators and the sponsors of the project celebrate this great blessing to the Aché people. (This was not an NTM effort.)
- Thank you for remembering my prayer request for effective interpreting skills. About 16 Spanish-speakers were able to benefit from the FBTW as a result. I’m painfully aware that I dropped some pins as I was simultaneously juggling the incoming English and outgoing Spanish, but our Latin American coworkers expressed gratitude that they were able to understand well enough to participate fully.
Each one of these faces represents a unique story of commitment in taking the Good News to those who haven’t had the chance to hear in their people group’s language. Our text translations and the interpretation of the sessions will contribute to preparations for two workshops of the same kind to be held in Spanish next year in our region. These servants of God and many others will benefit from them.

- Many thanks to those who voted for NTM Aviation in the grant contest. We came in second again this year, which means that NTMA will receive $8,000 to equip aircraft to serve tribal people.
- Thanksgiving Day – We’re looking forward to celebrating the holiday with Art & Lenn at their new home near Austin.
- Christmas – Through an unusual series of circumstances, God made it possible for Esther & Curtis to take their family to California for Christmas. The Lord willing, we will join them in their visits with the great-grandparents, and hopefully see some of you as well.
We thank the Lord for each of you on our support team. As you pray for us, please ask that He would raise up others like you. May God bless you and meet your needs in every way.
