This is a photo of Danny & Jhon Barrios in younger days.
The update below is the most recent info we have, as of Wednesday night. The paragraphs in italics were translated by another missionary from a report by Danny’s brother, who we have now learned is actually a doctor (my bad for the earlier misunderstanding).“Her condition continues to be critical; nonetheless today, by the mercy of God, we have seen some slight improvement in x-rays of her lungs; they continue looking really bad, but slightly better than yesterday.
… They’ve been able to cut back a bit on the drugs being used to maintain her blood pressure … and her oxygen saturation has shown a slight improvement.
Today [Wednesday] they initiated the treatment recommended yesterday by an infectious disease specialist. They were able to confirm that course of action with a second outside specialist; both were in agreement on the treatment.
She is still on an artificial respirator, with an external dialysis machine to replace her kidneys, and with medicine to support her heart, but at least we have seen some slight improvement. Still, her condition continues being delicate. …”
The one bit of news we received this afternoon was an appeal for prayer because her kidneys are not yet functioning on their own. We knew that her kidneys were being supported externally already, so we’re not quite sure how to interpret this. Perhaps they’ve been able to remove other machines like the respirator but not yet the dialysis machine? We don’t know.
Regardless of the details, it seems that she has survived much longer than the doctors expected, so we thank our Heavenly Father for that and keep lifting her up in prayer.
Many thanks to all who are interceding and who wrote a note to let us know!
