We work with New Tribes Mission among the Menya tribe in Papua New Guinea. They are a group of around 25,000 people. The Menya language is in the Angan language family, considered one of the hardest in PNG for a westerner to learn. We are currently learning the language and culture of the Menya, preparing to one day share the gospel with them in their own language. We expect to be learning language for 2-4 years.
New Tribes Mission is an organization committed to New Testament church planting among unreached tribal groups. There are thousands of people groups around the world with no access to the gospel. Papua New Guinea alone has over 850 language groups, many of whom have no access to the gospel in their heart language, and no access to a Bible translation. We believe firmly in the importance of teaching and Bible translation in the heart language of the people, and teaching them the Word of God from a deep understanding of who they are and how they think. This style of ministry requires a lot of sacrifice, since we believe we must live among them to effectively minister to them. NTM missionaries often work in remote, hard to access places. NTM Aviation and other support ministries make it possible for us to get our supplies and to travel to and from town, speeding the work of the gospel. We rely heavily on administrators; bookkeepers; supply buyers; consultants for culture and language learning, consultants for church planting and translation; builders, etc. for support in our ministry. See the video “Flight” for more about NTMA aviation.
