Same: At church this last Sunday we had a child dedication. It was very similar to what we’d have at Oakwood, with a Bible verse, vows taken by the parents, and a prayer. Different: There was only one child being dedicated and she wasn’t walked around the church. (I know it’s not very different, but I was excited to actually have a picture for this, so wanted to include it in my “Same but Different” series anyway.)
Same: I watched the African equivalent of the Super bowl on Sunday – the Can. Nigeria won, and even had t-shirts that said “Nigeria Champions of Africa.” Different: It was a soccer game (with a pretty yellow ball), which goes a lot faster than a football game, even though there aren’t nearly as many points scored. I also wondered – in the US, each team has t-shirts made in case they win the Super bowl and everyone says that the shirts that say the wrong team won are sent to Africa. What happens to the wrong shirts here? Do they get sent to the US? It was a funny thought.
