Dakar

April 24, 2013 by Susie

These last three weeks I have been in Dakar, Senegal.  Here I have been having orientation, having meeting with NTM leadership, perusing important books in the NTM and Wycliffe libraries, spending time with Senegalese believers, buying gifts for my friends in My Country, studying Jula, meeting other missionaries, and getting some time to rest.  It has been a wonderful 3 weeks but now I’m looking forward to returning to my friends in My Country later this week.  Here a few picture highlights of my time here:

Here is one of the churches I attended while in Senegal. The Body of Christ is alive and active here.
Wild birds
At a park in Dakar we found all of these wild birds. The picture isn’t the best, but the big ones are pelicans. The little ones are egrets and several other species. This was definitely a highlight of my time in Dakar.

a new friend
I met lots of new people here. Here is one of my new friends, Jen. We had a blast together!
NTM
I got to meet many more people who work with NTM. Here are a bunch of NTM ladies enjoying lunch together. How nice!
the ocean
I got to enjoy the ocean! I had to make sure to take a picture for my friends in My Country.
Wycliffe
Another highlight was visiting the Wycliffe missionaries here in Dakar. It’s great when missionaries can work together.
ice cream
Some parts of Dakar are much more like the US than I’m used to in My Country. I’ve gotten to eat pizza, ice cream, and hamburgers!
I got to hear what God is doing among the Konyagi people as well as spend time with the missionaries who work there. One afternoon I also babysat their kids so that the parents could have meetings with leadership.
This is a car rapide, one of the forms of public transportation here in Dakar. I love how colorful they are!
Here is a class of students learning French, using the same method I’m using to learn Jula. It was helpful to sit in on their class a few days since they are a few weeks ahead of me. I now know better what my Jula learning should look like.
