What happens when a child loses her teeth? Everyone knows – she puts it under her pillow and the next morning the tooth will have been replaced with money from the tooth fairy. But living in another country, it’s all those “everyone knows” things that I don’t know and have to learn. Today I learned what happens when a tooth falls out . . .
This is the story of a child who loses her teeth. (That’s how stories start here, I think. You have to make sure to introduce the characters and give it a title.) She loses her tooth and knows that a new one will grow in. But she takes her old tooth and throws it onto the roof and goes to bed. In the morning when she wakes up she looks outside and sees that there is a rooster in the yard! In the end they kill the rooster and eat it.
Yup, that’s what happens when you lose a tooth in Burkina, although I guess that it probably depends on how many kids in the family are losing teeth at the same time and how much money the parents have.
And…if there are enough roosters in the area! That’s quite funny.
