Still no surgery. I’ll keep you updated. Today I called my friend Fatoumata (Rachida’s great-aunt) to ask her what was happening. I couldn’t call Rachida’s grandma, Kadi, since she has stopped calling the family that’s with Rachida in the capital awaiting surgery, since otherwise she cries too much. Fatoumata didn’t have any phone credit so couldn’t call. On my way to the “boutique” to send her some phone credit so she could call, a neighbor stopped me. I didn’t really want to be stopped at the moment since I knew Fatoumata was waiting for me and I also knew that the Olympics were on and I didn’t know for how long and I wanted to hurry back and see them. But I’m glad I did stop, since he told me that one of our neighbors had just passed away a few hours ago. A young lady who I believe died from AIDS. I hadn’t met her, but Jen regularly went over there to pray for her, etc. So after I got the credit for Fatoumata and came back and told Jen, Jen and I went back and greeted the family (a common thing to do here). She stayed, but after a bit I came home and caught a little bit of the Olympics (ping pong and equestrian!) before Fatoumata called back. She said that the surgery didn’t happen today, and instead they were told to have 6 more tests run. The poor family!
That’s what I know now. I’ll keep you posted. Fatoumata is planning on coming over here tomorrow after work, and we’ll see what we can do to encourage the family and point them to Jesus. Thanks for your prayers!
