My village. In my last e-mail, I was using made-up names for the different villages we were considering moving into, and now I don’t have to anymore! Let me tell you the real names of “Goofy” and “Bridge,” the two villages we were considering: “My village,” and “The village 3 miles away.”
Yes, that means that we picked a village! And Dan, one of our leaders, was able to come out this week (instead of in December like they had originally planned!) and talk to the village chief and elders, who were happy to have us come and move in with them!
What does this mean now? Well, when Dan was with us, he asked them to find temporary housing for us to live in – houses that are already available that we could move into at least to start our time there. Yes, we may need to do a few modifications to get them up to a state we feel like we could live in them in, but it will be nice to have a place to live in as we start to learn the language and culture and build relationships and basically start over at zero in life. We didn’t know when they would have had a chance to talk together, find houses to propose to us, and get back to us, but yesterday morning I got a call from one of the guys there who said that we could come back, and, I’m assuming, see the houses that they picked out for us. Jen’s not feeling the best at the moment so we probably won’t get to go until Monday or so, but it’s exciting!
Then, hopefully sometime soon but likely not in the next week or two, we’ll move in and start. I’ll keep you posted and I’ll continue to appreciate your prayers!
