And yes, after another trip out to My Village last week, I have another update on our houses. Since the last time I was out there, the tiles have been done in the bathrooms! It’s kind of hard to tell in this picture, but they’re purple and white.
When I first looked into my bathroom this time, though, I burst out laughing. Maybe the tiles make it more pronounced, but it’s so clear that my house is not at all square! In the picture below, notice the back row of tiles – it goes very quickly from only having a smidgen of a tile to having almost the whole tile. It gives it character, right?
They also made the little “house” to house my solar batteries, since it’s dangerous to have them in the house with you because they let off fumes, etc. By the time I left, it was almost done!
In the next picture you’ll see progress on our “holes” outside – for where the water from our shower and toilet and sink will go. No, we don’t have running water yet, but hopefully one day. And in the meantime, we are all ready for it!
There you go! There’s the progress. But we heard that today the toilet, shower, and sink are supposed to be getting installed. The ramp for the moto to go up onto the porch and into the house was being worked on yesterday. Today or tomorrow the electrician is going out to finish up his work. The guy making screens for our windows is working on them. So, long story short, they say it should be done soon. In fact, they said that it should be mainly done by Friday – in 2 days! Wow! We’re planning on going out there shortly after that for a funeral, so we’ll see how progress is going. If it’s done, then it means we can pack up, say goodbyes (that will take a long time since it’s an important part of culture here), and head out. I’ll keep you posted!
