Happy Thanksgiving, Americans – we all have a lot to be thankful for!
The elections scheduled for November 30, 2008 in Côte d’Ivoire have been officially postponed. Opposition leaders and a "facilitator" from Burkina Faso have met today (Nov.10) to try to evaluate what logistics still need to be in place (like, identification cards and electoral voter lists, and other security issues) and how soon to re-schedule the "clear & transparent" elections needed to get Ivory Coast past the dead-lock since the civil war of 2002 – 2004. The hope now is that elections will be rescheduled to happen within the first half of 2009.
One of our missionary teams, working out of Burkina, will be attending a Translation Workshop in Senegal, and they will be taking along one of their translation helpers from the village. Pray for them as they travel Nov.13 – Dec.1; and then as they apply these principles to the Komono Bible translation.
We have praise items from each of our married children to share: Our oldest son Aaron will be returning to his home in Japan this month, in time for Thanksgiving. He has not yet seen his second child, Analise, who is already 6 months old; & he is just as anxious to see his other daughter, Abigail, and of course, his dear wife, Avé. We thank the Lord for protecting him during these last 9 months away.
We just got exciting news from our daughter Heidi & Mark Miller, in Idaho: they are expecting their third child this summer (that will be our fifth grandchild)! And from Ontario, Nate & Emily are doing well – Nate is expecting a promotion soon!
We are encouraged with the progress we have been able to make in the WorldView Trip project we are working on. We are still compiling and editing pre-trip orientation lectures for these short-term mission trips. Last week Martha and I took Mom Peterson on a few needed, restful days away – to a friend’s house by the lake. The autumn leaves were all in color, and the sunsets were beautiful.
See our list of Praise & Prayer items, on the link to the left.
Gladly in His service,
