A Spokane Weekend

May 4, 2010 by Tom

Last weekend we ventured up to Spokane, Washington. We left on my birthday (April 30th) and spent about 10 hours (things take longer with a kid :)) to get to our destination. The drive was truly astonishing. Observing the variety of God’s creation just took our breath away. From densely wooded mountains, the massive Columbia river, hills covered in green grass and tumble weed to wilderness plains stretching as far as the eye could see-it was truly remarkable. We decided after this trip that the drive from Portland to Spokane is the prettiest stretch of road we have ever driven in all our travels. Thank you Lord for such an amazing view in spite of the fact that we live in a world broken by sin. Wow.

Once in Spokane we spent the evening hours catching up with two dear friends, Justin & Jasmine as well as the following day, as they entertained us at their home and treated us to lunch. Then in the evening we hopped on over to Idaho and enjoyed some gorgeous scenery at a lake and a relaxing dinner. The refreshment of our friend’s company was absolutely wonderful and we could not imagine any way it could have been better. We thank them so much for their generosity in hosting our stay and making us feel so at home. It was very sad to say good bye, but we thank the Lord we could see them and have such quality time.

On Sunday we had the opportunity to share our goals with our friends at First Evangelical Free Church in Spokane. The sharing went really well and we thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to update the congregation with our plans for Papua New Guinea. The Pastor and his wife took us to lunch following the service and we had a great time of discussing ministry, spiritual growth and other things. We really love this church and appreciate their interest in reaching the unreached in Papua New Guinea.

Right after lunch it was time to hit the road to return to Oregon. Again we were left in awe at the beauty we had the privilege of looking at all the way back. As the sun set it was amazing to see how it settled on the mountains, turning them to brilliant gold in places. WOW. We are so thankful to the Lord for His faithful provision and protection of us on this weekend trip. Like I said before, we cannot even imagine how it could have been better. We are refreshed and encouraged.

Yup, Spokane is a neat place tucked away in the interior.

Praying about your work permits, etc.
