The last three months with our little “Pirate Princess” Iris have sure been interesting! Iris has endured all these weeks of wearing an eye patch covering one eye (alternating sides every three days) all day, every day. There have been good days, ok days and some days where I thought the world would end before she would agree to keep the eye patch on. We have gone through over 400 eye patches and I have heard her give me every reason her little two year old brain can think of as to why she should not need to wear her eye patch! And I have have given her every reason my Mommy brain can think of as to why she must wear them! At this point I am about done with eye patches. I hope I never have to make her wear one again.
After all the drama and our best attempt to help Iris with this “Occlusion Therapy,” we have not seen any improvement in her eyes. Honestly, this has been very disheartening but we have done our best and now it is time for Plan B. This coming week, Iris and I will be leaving our island to head to another province. We will be there for one week for the purpose of having Iris re-evaluated by the best eye specialist that Papua New Guinea has to offer. We do not know what is ahead but making this trip is the next step toward figuring that out. This doctor should be able to tell us if Iris is in need of surgery or if their is something else we need to try first.
We are thankful to the Lord for allowing us to learn of this traveling specialist who is with in the country! This is actually a huge blessing! We will not have to leave the country to have Iris diagnosed. We are trusting the Lord to provide for whatever costs are involved and look forward to having a few more answers in the coming weeks. Iris is very excited to ride on an airplane and go on her special trip with Mommy. I have have promised her many rewards of ice cream if she keeps being a good girl! 😀
In spite of this hardship we are really praising the Lord for how He is looking after Iris. We are blessed that Iris is such an amazing little ball of healthy energy! We recognize we could be facing challenges far worse and continue to entrust her to the Lord, trusting He will keep showing us what needs to be done to help her. Thank you so much for all your prayers for her eyes! We appreciate them! Keep praying!
I will update you all after this Pirate Princess returns from her voyage…
