What do all the things in this picture have in common you might ask? Well. They are three of Iris’ favorite things about her eye checkups she has been having for the last 4 months! The fly is usually the image she looks at on a tablet device through 3D glasses as the doctor tells her “do” different things to the fly (like pick it up and put it in his hand, etc). This part of the exam is to help him understand how she is perceiving 3D images. The little blue dolphin key chain makes a funny sound and has LED eyes that blink red. The Doctor uses it to get her attention during examinations and Iris loves it! She always looks forward to see the “silly blue dolphin!”
Iris’ recovery since she had surgery on both of her eyes in November has been amazing and we are praising the Lord for it! She has been such a trooper throughout her recovery and even informed us at one point that she “loved” her eye doctor and that “he is nice!” 🙂
To give a bit of perspective on what has taken place I’ve noted some “before & after” facts of what Iris has been through and how God has taken care of her.
As you can see from her pictures below, the improvement in her eyes has been drastic! Praise the Lord!
As of Iris’ last check up we received some great news! The Doctor was very impressed with how much her eye sight has improved and by the end of the appointment he was telling us that he thinks Iris will be ready to return to Papua New Guinea in only a few months! This is wonderful news. Our tickets have been purchased and we will be leaving for our return to PNG on June 5th!
As our time in Michigan comes to an end and we look ahead to our time on the West Coast the reality of how little time we have “left” on this side of the globe is sinking in. Of course, we are excited to know when we will return to our village home and ministry but it is difficult at the same time to part, yet again with those we love (and the conveniences of life) on this side of world.
We would really appreciate your prayers for our spiritual & emotional health as a family as we go through these last months filled with lots of transition and travel. Please pray that Tom & I will parent well and help Jude & Iris to feel secure and content in the midst of constant change. You could also pray that we could effectively make plans to spend time with those we love while not running ourselves ragged or being filled with panic.
We are just so thankful to our loving God who has done for us so much more than we could have imagined! He is worthy of our praise!
