Recently, I was reading a study on the statistics of global missions, and I was once again staggered to learn that over 2.2 billion people on the planet remain isolated from the gospel! That’s just under a third of the world’s population! Its easy to get distracted by whats going on in our own lives and the world around us that sometimes we forget that the world is a large place, and that the good news of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection from the dead has not yet made its way entirely around the globe.
Like Beth & I, Beth’s sister and her husband, Don & Chrissy Chubb have heard the clear call from scripture that Christ has commissioned all believers of every age to be involved in making disciples to the ends of the earth. The Lord has burdened both of their hearts for these peoples of the world with no access to the gospel. Because of this, after years of training and preparation, next week, Don & Chrissy, along with their daughter Lily, will be taking the huge step of leaving the United States and moving down to Mexico!
It was when they were in Bible school together that they were challenged by the needs of the unreached. They write, “We both knew about missions before going there, but the reality of how many language groups don’t have a chance of hearing the gospel struck us hard. Not many are willing to go to the indigenous people groups at the ends of the earth, and so the need there is huge.”
Mexico is home to over 113 million people. It is 83% Catholic, having the second largest Catholic community in the world. While the majority of the population speaks Spanish, you may find it surprising to learn that Mexico is home to hundreds of different, specific varieties of indigenous languages! Many of these groups of people remain isolated from a clear gospel witness. They are excited for this next step!
For the first two years in Mexico they will live in Chihuahua for Spanish language study and culture acquisition. After that, they will look into their next move into an unreached people group. They write, “Some of the people groups already have some missionaries who might need more co-workers, others might be brand new works and we would have to form a complete team with several other families to go there. We are open to either, but will need to evaluate these things once the time comes closer for us to move into one.”
Once they are allocated into a specific tribal location, there will be more language and culture study and relationship building among the people group. The goal is to see the gospel spread where it has not yet been, potential believers discipled into maturity, the Scriptures translated, and a church planted that lasts long after they are gone.
So exciting! You can learn more about their ministry and keep up with them at their blog ChubbScouts.Blogspot.Com.
