Renewed Vision for 2016

January 17, 2016 by Tom

CU Cactus

Jesus said to His disciples:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” -Matthew 28:19-20

Paul boldly proclaimed to the Roman Christians:

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to whoever believes.” Romans 1:16

As a family, we are committed to the fulfillment of the Great Commission worldwide. We believe that this includes the building of intentional relationships, the modeling of Christ-likeness, the clear communication of the Gospel and the discipleship of believers into mature obedience to Christ through partnership with the local church.

Our family works for an organization called New Tribes Mission. Of the world’s 6,500 people groups, 2,500 remain unreached from the Good News of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. New Tribes Mission helps local churches train, coordinate and send Gospel witnesses to these parts of the world.

As you know, the reason we are down here in Mexico is because it is home to some of the world’s least-reached people groups. There are many unique language groups in Mexico and Spanish is only one of them. Our calling is to be a part of seeing those without access to the Gospel message have the opportunity to hear and believe in Jesus Christ and to grow in Him within the context of loving and sacrificial relationships among them.

I remember when I first understood and believed the Gospel. It forever changed my life! Our passion is to be used by God to see lives changed as other people come to know and place their trust in Jesus Christ, and to see them built up in Him.

This Coming Year

Aside from continuing in language and culture study, building relationships and being involved in our orphanage ministry this year, we are hoping to make some trips out to see some of the teams working throughout Mexico, funds permitting. This year is going to be crucial because we will be making a final decision about our future ministry down here in Mexico. Being exposed to some of the works will help us make our decision. We count it a huge privilege to get to know some of the amazing families living down here in remote areas of Mexico making profound sacrifices for the sake of the Gospel!

Right now we are praying for direction from the Lord as to where we should go. We have two options as we can tell at this point:

1) The first option is that we have the opportunity to join some of these families in their individual locations among an unreached people group in their endeavors of reaching the lost.

2) The second option is to work with a team dedicated to partnering with the Mexican church by training a new generation of missionaries. We would be taking a direct role in discipling and preparing these future missionaries to take on the task of evangelism and discipleship throughout the areas of the world where Christ is not known.

While we desire to serve alongside others in making disciples among a least-reached people group on a team, we are unsure if the Lord would have us learn yet another language and culture. At the same time, however, the truth is that we are young and healthy and are able to do what many others cannot; to live remotely and with the potential of successfully being able to learn another language. No matter how many years more it could take, spreading the light of the Gospel into places where it has not yet been is a worthy investment of time.

We are hoping to be finished with Spanish language study this coming December and hope to make our final decision with regard to our direction sometime during the fall of this year.

How You Can Partner

boysPray for us this year as we seek to make a decision about our future direction. We are committed to Jesus Christ and willing to go in the direction He opens up to us.

Pray for us to be motivated and focused in our language and culture studies. Pray for our goal of being finished by December. It is incredibly overwhelming to think of all that we still have to learn but by the grace of God we will continue to move forward one day at time.

We rely on the financial support of others for this task and we remain under-supported. We count it a huge privilege to be supported by churches, individuals, families and small groups. If you want to learn about how to partner with us regularly or make a special gift, you can contact us or give online here.

Feel free to contact us anytime with questions, concerns and encouragements you have for our family. We love to stay connected with people and if there is any way we can serve you, please let us know.

If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about how you can be a part in going out yourself, we love dialoguing with people about missions and helping them think through how the Lord might involve them in building His church around the globe!

A Final Word

Finally, none of us knows what the future holds. But we do know that we have today. We can choose to walk by faith in Him today, love others and hope for His return. What a privilege and joy it is to know Jesus Christ, to walk in intimate communion with Him and live a life of love for others. Praise God for today and here’s to this next year with Him!

Glad to notice that you realize that you are still young and healthy, and could do another tribal assignment, if the Lord leads that way. Both choices sound good!

    Great blog and great God!!

We will continue to pray for clarity in your next steps.

So thankful you are faithful in proclaiming the Good News
of salvation, 1 Cor 15:1-4, Rom 10:9-10 so faithfully “not
being ashamed of the Gospel….” It is a joy to partner with
you and Beth and to watch your beautiful children grow up
in wisdom and the Lord. Blessings

Did You Know?

Mexico is home to over 130 million people. While Mexico is the world’s most populous Spanish-speaking country, you may find it surprising to learn that Mexico’s indigenous groups speak over 364 variations of 68 different languages!
