Heading Into a New Ministry

July 30, 2018 by Tom

Readers of this blog will remember that for the past year or so we had been making plans to join our ministry team working down in Mexico City at our mission run Bible Institute there. We had our sights set on joining two other families serving at the school, and looked forward to our future role of teaching the Word and discipling students.

However, because of the loss of some key personnel on the field a few months ago, we were asked if we would be willing to remain in Chihuahua to fill some administrative needs. We felt like the Lord had opened this door, and agreed to remain in Chihuahua to fill these needed roles.

What We’re Heading Into

We are very excited to be able to serve the field of Mexico in this way. Here in Chihuahua, we will have the privilege of coordinating Mexico’s consultant committee. This committee facilitates each tribal work receiving strategic help in the areas of language study, literacy, Bible curriculum development, church planting, Bible translation and homeschooling coordination. We will also be involved in researching new areas of Mexico for our upcoming teams to work in, as well as serve as part of the team that guides our Spanish language and Mexican culture study program.

Along with this, we will also have a hand in our national training program, teaching at our Instituto Misionero Transcultural (Mexico’s Missionary Training Center), called “The Ranch.” We are excited to be able to have part in building into our Mexican missionaries-in-training!

We are just moving into these new roles and are still wrapping up our time in formal Spanish language and Mexican culture study.  We are trusting the Lord through this transition and thanking Him for the opportunity to serve alongside our church planters, consultants, field leaders and many others dedicated to seeing the Gospel go out.

All For the Church

Why do we serve in Mexico? For the sake of our Savior, the One who died and rose for us, and for His Church, whom He purchased with His blood. We look forward to being able to serve the Church by assisting our church planting teams, working in unity to see people come to know Christ and built up in Him among the least reach peoples of Mexico. What a privilege it is to both know Christ and be able to bring others into the knowledge of Him!

Did You Know?

Mexico is home to over 126 million people. While Mexico is the world’s most populous Spanish speaking country you may find it surprising to learn that Mexico’s indigenous groups speak 68 different languages and make up 15 percent of the population!
