Every two years we all come together for a special time called “Conference.” All the cross cultural workers in our organization who work here in Mexico gather in one place for five days of fellowship, spiritual encouragement, updates from our tribal works and a lot of refreshing laughter. It always go by in a flash and this year was no exception.
In this blog I’ll share a lot of pictures of our time at Conference and share a few ways the Lord encouraged my heart through this time.
One thing I love about conference is that it allows me to feel small in the big picture. God is the one building His church; He is at work in so many ways that I cannot even begin to understand. His wisdom is greater than mine in all my attempts to guess what He might do in lives, how I think certain things should be resolved and even how long I think certain seasons should last. Our speaker challenged us to remember and trust our “Invisible God” who is at work in the midst of circumstances that seem unbearable and confusing. When our focus is placed on Him we can make it through difficulty for His glory. It was encouraging and a good reality check as so many individuals shared about How God has been at work, shed tears over disappointments in ministry and came back to stand on the truth that we serve a trustworthy and worthy Savior.
Another thing I love about conference is the different languages. It may seem silly but I love that we come together as a group who speak multiple heart languages and that God in His mercy reached each one of us through that specific language and then mercifully allows us to learn other languages in order to be servants who reach beyond borders with His name. It gives me a little glimpse into what we all have to look forward to in eternity-many peoples and tongues all praising one name, the one above all others. I am personally humbled and impressed by the gift I get of calling so many people from so many backgrounds and people groups my spiritual family and my earthly coworkers.
The last thing I would like to share that encouraged me at conference is others. It really spurs me on in my faith and life of ministry to see others serving. I hear from coworkers and watch how they live their lives and it motivates me. I see Christ in them and observe them walking by faith and trusting the Lord and that helps me personally. I respect those who have served faithfully for many years and love to hear what they have learned from the Lord during that time. I can also encourage others by sharing what God has been and is teaching me and the ways I am growing as He patiently brings me along in my spiritual growth.
I also have to add in this section that just hanging out with each other is such a blessing. We laugh till our sides hurt and just enjoy so much catching up with one another. It is good for the soul.
So, we will look forward to our next conference time two years from now and let the good memories from this one carry us until then.
