Pray for the Kuyu and Lembena

October 5, 2026 by Travis and Becky Lesicka

God’s message for the Kuyu

What does it look like to hear God’s story for the first time? An update from the Kuyu team:

Kuyu village

‘Fifteen years ago, the Kuyu people started writing letters, asking someone to come and teach them “God’s talk.” Lord willing, on November 30th they will finally begin hearing God’s story in their own language—through 61 progressive Bible lessons that take them from Creation all the way to Christ.

The Kuyu team wanted to give others a meaningful way to walk alongside the Kuyu, so they’ve adapted those same lessons into an English devotional called ‘Walking with the Kuyu’.  Each entry includes Scripture readings, a window into what the Kuyu are learning, reflection questions, and specific prayer points.  As you move through the story, you’ll see how every part reveals God’s character, our deep need, and His plan of redemption.

We’d love for you to join them—and to invite someone else to read along.  Is there a neighbor, relative, coworker, or friend you’ve been wanting to open the Bible with? This could be a simple, natural way to discover the hope found in Jesus together. Closer to the start date, they’ll post the teaching schedule on the website below so you can stay in step with the Kuyu.

Visting the Lembena

Lembena village

Last month we were able to take a 4 day break as a family to visit another one of the church planting locations we support through aviation.

We stayed with the team working among the Lembena people.  We very much enjoyed getting to know the families on this team.  Our kids played with their kids and saw a little of what it is like to live in the ‘big bush’ as they call it here.

The Lembena team is also preparing to begin Bible teaching in their local language this November.  We were able to sit in on one of their literacy classes and a movie night.  In preparation for the teaching, they recently  started showing videos to help people understand concepts from the Bible they may have never seen, like lions, swords, chariots, the land of Israel, etc.

We were blessed to see this ministry up close.  We also very much enjoyed living outside of a fence for a few days.  (The kids went swimming in the river daily.)  We came home refreshed and energized.  We also had a new appreciation for the cooler nights of the highlands after sleeping with no sheets and a fan for several days.

If you would like to watch a video of our trip, you can do that here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1W3oOa2pZqYgO88XgCaKZ77l_agoYsHbE/view?usp=share_link

Please do not share the video on social media.

Prayer Requests:

Please pray for the Kuyu and Lembena teams as they begin teaching from Creation to Christ in their local languages.  Pray that many would listen and understand the grace of God.

Please pray for staffing needs at Numonohi Christian Academy.  NCA provides education for the children of our mission organization, as well as for MAF and a hand full of other organizations and national students. More information at the end of this newsletter.

Please pray for good health for our family and our co-workers.  And wisdom in parenting.

Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and support as we serve church planters in PNG through aviation!

Love,

Travis & Becky
