T-Minus 6 Days

Pre-Jungle Camp Edition
Dear Friends and Family,

We hope you are all doing well as the summer begins.  It has been a busy time for us right now since Jungle Camp building-weeks started this past Monday and we move up this coming Saturday!  We’ll show you some pictures of our progress and give a bit of an explanation of Jungle Camp for you in a second.
After Jungle Camp we will have a month off and will be traveling to Maine and Pennsylvania to see as many of you as we can in that amount of time.
This is just a quick update to keep in touch with you all before we are “Off the Grid” for 4 weeks without any communication except snail mail! [Our address is at the bottom if you want to send “Jungle mail” to us! 🙂 ]
Jungle Camp is a 6 week experience that Emanate students participate in where we build houses out of cedar poles, duct tape, twine, and plastic sheets. We construct these “dream homes” for 2 weeks and then live up there in the woods for 4 weeks.  We also get to do some backpacking trips during this time. The men’s hike is this Monday through Wednesday and the ladies hike is not for a few weeks yet.
“Why do we do Jungle Camp?  To be clear, Jungle Camp is not designed to simulate the conditions in any particular field or country.  Missionary life will not necessarily mean living in houses made of cedar poles, plastic, and duct tape.   Nevertheless, this training is immensely practical.  We will get to practice living without most modern comforts and conveniences.  We will experience the additional time it takes to accomplish everyday tasks like cooking, dishes, bathing, and laundry.  We will have to leave behind the phones and internet we so habitually check.  At the same time, we will have the opportunity to practice living together in community.  All of these practical lessons will help equip us to become more effective ambassadors of the Gospel.”  -Todd Culbertson from the Emanate Blog

Prayer Points:
For God’s work in our lives, marriage, and hearts through Jungle Camp to prepare us for future ministry
For us to learn to choose joy in all circumstances
For continued guidance in future direction and decisions
Praise:
The people and relationships that we have been blessed with here
God’s provision for us to be able to do Jungle Camp
Last month we made a weekend trip to Wisconsin for a friend’s wedding. We also got to meet our newest nephew and have some sweet family time!
