Christmas came and went way too quickly, but we thoroughly enjoyed our time with friends and family, especially with our adult children. Ben and Jessica were able to spend eight days with us, and our college-aged kids were with us for 24 days; we can’t express how thankful we are for those days. Plus our exciting news: Paul proposed to Bekah Cousens. It was great to get to know her over Christmas. She is a wonderful young lady who will make Paul a perfect mate.
We have enjoyed a few more opportunities to be with our college “children” in January and February, being with Paul on his birthday and going to a few basketball games. Ashley and Juliana both play basketball for Calvary Bible College. Once we even had the whole girls’ basketball team spend the night at our house after a game.
We were able to speak at one church in January and then in February we spoke at Abby’s school, speaking four times at their different aged chapels (kinder; grades 1-3; grades 4-6; and grades 7-8). They all listened and participated well during our presentation, being challenged to be involved in missions even in their young age. God is at work even in young hearts. Two students saw me in the halls after school and wanted my autograph.
Then the following week we traveled back to Calvary to speak at the their educational department chapel on Feb 14, challenging future teachers to teach at Faith Academy or other MK Schools. It was fun to be with our college-aged kids on Valentines Day, plus we saw another basketball game that evening.
Winter months can be slow months for missionaries, but God has blessed us and kept us active. This week we travel to the east coast to attend a teachers’ workshop on special needs students, organized by NILD. We will visit with friends and family on the way.
We are scheduled to share in two churches in March but are praying for more opportunities to share. Please pray for wisdom as we schedule our last 5 months in the US. Regarding finances, please pray for the following:
· Our monthly support is at 60% and we need money for a “new” vehicle and to set up our house in the Philippines
· Pray for wisdom to know what to do with our house in Rose Hill at the end of our home assignment
· Pray for wisdom as we look for vehicles for Ashley and Juliana
Lastly, we have one final prayer request regarding my future ministry at FA. When I left last June, I was asked to be the vice principal of the middle school, but since then the middle school principal has decided to take a different role next year, so they are asking me to consider becoming the middle school principal. I have been the interim principal before, but it was for just a semester and then I went back to doing the many other ministries that I enjoy, i.e., special ed. teacher, math teacher, basketball coach, class advisor, etc. I still will be able to do some things, but my time will definitely be restricted and filled with other things. So please pray for wisdom in this decision.
Thank you for praying for us,
Walter for the Spicers
